Service launch to kick start New Year
Monday 4th February 2008
VERNet began launching segments of its network for service to its members on January 29. The underlying VERN network infrastructure comprises a mix of dark fibre and wavelengths. Network circuits are being provided to members as 1Gbps Ethernet services.
Products based on the 1Gbps services during the initial service offering are now part of the services provided by VERNet.
VERNet provides its members with three foundation products; Unmanaged 1Gbps Ethernet, Managed 1 Gbps Ethernet and Managed 10Gbps Ethernet (AREN). VERNet expects there to be growing member demand for 10Gbps and 40Gbps across key parts of the network in the next 1-2 years.
Throughout 2008, VERNet will be working with its members to develop aspects of its service. This work will be aimed at expanding circuit capacity, service and technical support and terms associated with the usage of circuits.
VERNet expects to have collaboratively developed a regime for the usage of the VERN, including customer access, by early 2009.
