Increased number of services for VERN members

Monday 28th September 2009

The last four months have seen VERNet provide a total of 150 of the 153 VERN phase one services to their ten members. There are now seven of the ten members enjoying 100% of their VERN phase one services.  The remaining six services are expected to be completed within varying timeframes due to a number of factors such as sites under construction and finalising site access agreements.

While the VERNet team continues to work on the remaining VERN phase one services, a number of members have approached VERNet to provide services for new projects.

Due to the growing number of ‘new work’ requests VERNet implemented a process to effectively manage these requests.  VERNet now provides members with an opportunity to nominate new work projects for completion during a half yearly pipeline of works.

During the first half of 2009, VERNet completed a number of new works projects that enabled the provisioning of 15 additional services to a selection of members.

Some of these works included a number of 4Gbps Fibre Channel services, multiple 10Gbps Ethernet services as well as a number of VERNet’s most popular product, the 1Gbps Ethernet service.

Now as we move towards the end of 2009 a number of half 2 2009 projects are well underway, including VERNet’s first non dual sector TAFE connection.  Deakin University will be provisioned with a 1Gbps Ethernet service between East Gippsland Institute of TAFE in Bairnsdale and the Deakin University Burwood campus.

Stay tuned for further updates as the VERN continues to grow and expand across the state.
